Computer Service and Repair

Posted on May 11, 2016My concrete5 Blog

What's your name mean?

It comes from the TV show lost. It didn't have a "Button 108", but it did have a computer where they had to push a Button every 108 minutes to save the world. I should have just gone with "Durant Computer Repair", but I always seem to choose personality and originality over simple usefulness.

How can I get my computer to you to get it fixed?

Call, email, or text me. I will come by and pick up your computer or work on it on-site. We'll work out the details. For businesses, in most cases I will work on-site.

Do you fix laptops?

Yes. And no. Most problems that you have with your laptop are software related and in that way are no different than any other computer problem. However, I do impose limitations on myself as to what HARDWARE repairs I will perform on laptops. I will replace or upgrade hard drives, RAM memory, and batteries on most laptops, but I do not repair screens or other damaged hardware on laptops. The same applies for all-in-one computers.

Do you fix Cell Phones?

In general, No. I do provide IT services and many times that has involved helping people set up, learn, or operate their smart phones. Still, Button 108 is not a phone repair company. I don't replace screens or fix broken buttons on your smart phones, but I'd be happy to refer you to another local service that does.

My Computer's Running Slow. Can you fix that?

YES! I sure can. I can optimize your computer, remove unnecessary software, clean up viruses and malware that might bog it down and even upgrade the hardware to make your computer run faster. Sometimes, though, you just need a new computer. If that's the case, I'll tell you!

Do you sell computers? Desktops or Laptops?

I will help you find the best computer for your needs within the price range you need. Shopping for a computer can be daunting these days. If you don't know what you're doing, the best you can do is throw a lot of money at it and hope you got what you paid for. I don't keep an inventory, but, yes, you can buy your computers (laptops, desktops, or even all-in-ones if that's what you want) from me.

How do you charge?

Simple. I charge $45 per hour. I've been criticized for not charging a 1 hour minimum. If you only need me for 15 minutes, I'll only bill you for 15 minutes: $11.25. If your repair takes 2 hours, it'll be $90. Etc. Very simple pricing. No special install pricing, upgrade price, update pricing, consult pricing. Just $45 per hour.

How far is your service area?

For out-of-town work, I charge a minimum based on travel time. If I have to travel 1 hour to reach you, I will charge you a minimum of $45. To clarify: NO TRAVEL FEE.  If I work for you for 15 minutes after travelling 1 hour to get there, I will charge you for that 1 hour minimum. If I work for you for 3 hours, I will charge you for 3 hours. Then I travel one hour back and that doesn't affect your cost at all. That means, if you live in Oklahoma City and need IT Support, I'm going to charge you for a minimum of 3 hours or $135. If you have 3 hours worth of work, there's nothing lost. And if you compare the cost of hiring somebody locally... You probably saved a lot of money by hiring me.

Do you do WordPress sites?

None of the sites that I currently run use the WordPress CMS. I've used Concrete 5 for all of my recent projects. To me, Concrete 5 makes more sense from a simple management standpoint, unless of course you're building a blog, which WordPress is designed for. If you want a custom WordPress site, yes, I will build you one.

How do you make your websites?

From scratch. I code using a text-editor. HTML, CSS, Javascript, and PHP together with a lot of time in Photoshop dreaming, laying out, and designing elements.

How much do your websites cost?

My Web Design is based entirely on quotes. You tell me what you need for your website and I'll give you a quote. My prices are very competitive and cost-effective, but it's certainly not like going to a do it yourself website that charges a few dollars a month. After all, my head is going to be buried in my computer for hours upon hours designing and coding for you.

How much do you charge for just a Basic Website?

Basic. I don't know the meaning of the word. Maybe that's not a good thing, but I don't think you know the meaning of the word either. This is a question I get asked all the time. As I said in the previous answer, all web designs are individually quoted. How many pages will your website have? Will you want a content management system to let you update it yourself? Will there be image galleries? Awe inspiring visual effects? Forms? Data capture and tracking? Dynamic content loaded from other sites? Or are you really just wanting a dot com with with a white background and black text that shows your phone number for eternity? I guess that would be pretty basic.

My quotes really are pain free. I'll meet with you and imagine your website with you, maybe I'll even buy you coffee at Hot Shots while we talk. Then I'll go over that information to get an idea of what all it will take. Then I'll email you a quote. If you like it, fantastic! If not, well, we could re-imagine and start from scratch or you could shop around and compare. I won't be offended if you don't choose to accept the quote and I won't bang on your door for a month trying to talk you into it.

What kind of custom software do you make?

I've worked on Contact Management Software, e-commerce integrated software, and other custom data management. All of my custom software is web-based, but this can manifest itself in all sorts of forms.

Do you accept credit cards?

Yes, on smaller Invoices I do. I will process your credit cards via Square.
