You may have seen it on Facebook or in the Newspaper. Or you may have not seen it at all, and not care either. Whatever the case, Button 108 is now a part of the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce, and glad to be! This actually didn't JUST happen though.
Years ago, when I started running Button 108 as a side business, I ran into a local pastor who invited me to a Chamber event known as the "Coffee Network." He told me it was a chance to meet other people and do a little bit of advertising. I was young. I still am, I think. I wasn't the most outgoing person, a trait that would be very helpful in a business where you have to sell or especially sell yourself. So I had to psych myself out quite a bit to get the courage to go. It was awkward. I really had to push through quite a bit to keep going, but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I made for my business.
They didn't require that I become a chamber member. Just throw a dollar in a pot and see who wins all the money at the end of the month. So I continued to come for years without joining the chamber as I slowly built my business.
Eventually, Button 108 stopped just being a side business. Then came the day that I finally won the pot at Coffee Network. That and a little push from the amazing people at the chamber were enough to make me finally bite the bullet. I officially joined the chamber last fall!
Now, what you may have seen was not me opening a new office. It was not in fact me joining the chamber. When you join the Chamber, one of their many benefits is a Ribbon Cutting for your business. Not only is it another chance to meet other business people, but they also publish an article about you in the local newspaper - something I've already seen the benefit of. The timing of when I joined the chamber just didn't work well for me. So rather then do the ribbon cutting last fall, I delayed and finally got around to it this month.
I'd really like to thank everyone that came out.
I had people from the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce, Woodmen of the World, Vann Dixon CPA, Ricoh, the Durant Riding Club, The River, Antedeluvian, Red River Ford, the Durant Democrat, Mix 96.1, Imagine Durant, and I'm probably still forgetting some people! Thank you all for being there to support my business. It meant a lot to me!
